June 18th 2008 7:05 call to order Introductions: Kudos- Indian Social (Allyson) -bad weather but good company Carnival (June/Brad/Amy) - overall we did fairly well, good weather over weekend Membership- several new prospectives from carnival Next Caribou Social Night - July 9th 7:00, Poplar Creek Caribou (59 & Higgins) Speaker- Sally Griffith from Harper College Harper is having some problems in their buildings which are over 40 years and need some updating. State hasn’t given them money in over 10 years. They are having problems with plumbing. Heating and air conditioning doesn’t work well. They would like advice/opinions on what they should do. They are looking for what the community will support. Tuition- $95/credit hour What communities they serve- Serve 23 communities. Community (Louise): • Progressive Dinner- Saturday 21st (Midsummer Swedish festival) 6:00- Joanne’s appetizers and main course Followed by dessert and board games at Amy’s N.’s house. (If you can only make it to Amy, call Joanne and she will let you know when we are on our way over.) • 4th of July Parade (Erin and Allyson) 8:15am, Louise is driving. Shirt decorating meet before progressive dinner at Joanne’s house • Relay for life (Erin) 7/18 luminaries 7-10, need help with luminaries. • Car wash with the Clearbrook Boy Scouts (Mike) 7/26- Hoffman Police Department, Roughly 10am to 1 p.m. Individual Development (Jeremy): • Summerfest (Amy D.) - Saturday 6/28, not sure on time. $15 per person, cheaper to buy it online than at door. Over 180 bands and food. Couple extra dollars to pitch in for gas. We need some drivers. It opens at ten; in the middle of next week we will have more information. • Schaumburg Flyers game (Amy D.) - Sunday 7/13, 1:20. Bring $20. Kids running bases and fireworks after game. • Spanish lesson- July 16 at the general meeting; Kate will be presenting since she is a Spanish teacher! Chairman of Board (Erin): Regional Events: A lot of chapters have helped us and are asking for our help in return • Palatine needs help July 3-6- Carnival, Serving beer, running games, or community/member outreach; If you can help out, let Erin (847-385-8265) or Joanne (847-561-2556) know. • July 2-5 Wheeling- needs help running their kids’ activities and membership booth. President (Rob): Rob stated that he would like to appoint Allyson H. as Secretary. Joanne motioned, Erin seconded. Motion passed, 8 yeas, 0 nays. Allyson was sworn in. New member swear-in: Rannier was sworn in. Mayor McLeod said that he is impressed with the work of the Scholarship Recipients and with the Jaycees. He stayed to watch the Scholarship presentations. Theme Award - Brad P. received the June Theme Award after co-chairing the Manpower part of the carnival and visiting chapter meetings. Keep up the good work, Brad! Presentation of scholarships (Erin) - 2 High School Seniors were selected from applications at the Scholarship committee meeting in May. They were each given $500 scholarships at the meeting. Congratulations to Alexandria and Christopher, who exemplified the attributes of scholarship as well as service and leadership, the main focuses of the Jaycees. Adjourned with the creed.
