Jaycees & Guests, Here are the minutes from last night's meeting. There are many upcoming projects for our group as well as throughout the region and the Village of Hoffman Estates. And welcome to Julie, the newest Jaycee!! Attached are the regional meeting registration form, the shop & share form for next week, and an updated calendar for you. We hope to see you all soon. Erin Meeting Minutes - June 19, 2007 Treasurer's Report: We made approximately $4,000 on the carnival, significantly better than last year's carnival. We are still paying bills, so there will be a more concrete number at the next meeting. Visitations: -Palatine - Jackie & Chrissy visited from Palatine to talk about their Hometown Fest from 6/29-7/4. They need people to work in several different capacities, from selling carnival tickets to doing community surveys to helping with the craft show or games to selling beer (you need to be certified by the police to sell beer). If you have any time between June 29th and July 4th to give them 2 hours or your time, that would be appreciated. (They also sent people to our carnival, so we'd like to help them out too.) -Schaumburg - Holly thanked us for helping out at the Memorial Day Picnic. President (Erin Smith): -Kudos to chairs - Congratulations to these people for chairing projects in May & June: Carnival - Joanne, Rob, & Mike; Fun Fair, Cancer Benefit, and Relay - Louise; Speak-up - Michelle -The State GA (General Assembly) will be close this time! It will be in Naperville on August 10-12, so come out and participate! The training on Saturday 8/11 is free (and it's great) To attend the lunch & dinner on Saturday is $55. We have done many activities and have submitted many things to the state this quarter, so we need a lot of people there to represent Hoffman! If you are interested in attending, please let me know. Membership/COB (Joanne Rinaldo, Membership VP/COB) -Progressive Dinner M-Night 6/23 - The Progressive Dinner is this Saturday, 6/23. It starts at Rob & Erin's house and goes to Joanne's and Kate's houses. Guests & kids are welcome. If you're interested in coming, call Joanne at (847) 561-2556. -We will be walking in the 4th of July Parade on 7/4 at 9 a.m. If you are interested in walking & handing out flyers, talk to Joanne or Erin at (847) 385-8265 soon so we can buy you a shirt. A motion was made (Joanne) and seconded (Amy), then passed to allot $30 for shirts for the parade. We will be decorating Louise's car! -COB Update - Thanks to those who came out to the Relay for Life. We put out luminaries around Alexian Field. Community (Louise Kopp, Community VP) -School Supply Drive - The School supply drive will be on August 4th. The date is to be announced. If you can help, please contact Louise at cnderela1@aol.com. -Clearbrook Car Wash 8/18 - We will be having a car wash to benefit Clearbrook. Mike has already set it up with Clearbrook, and it will be in the Hoffman Estates Police Department parking lot again. If you can come, let Louise (cnderela1@aol.com) know. Guest Speaker: Sally Kincaid from Sea, Air, & Land Travel came to speak and give travel tips. We learned about good times of the year to go to various locales, covering Mexico and the Caribbean to Europe. Of course, now we all want to take a vacation!! Individual Development (Michelle Westfall, ID VP) -The Drive-in Movie Social will be on Saturday, June 30th at the Cascade Drive-In at 1100 E. North Avenue in West Chicago. We will tailgate starting at 6:30, and the movie starts around 8:15. Please let Erin know if you will be coming (847-385-8265). -The How to Grill activity will be on Sunday, August 19th at Jeff Johnson's house. If you know a professional chef who might be interested in teaching us grilling tips, please let us know. -The Schaumburg Flyers game is Sunday, July 15th. Tickets are $8 apiece if we get 25 people to go, or $9.50 if there are fewer than 25. Please let Michelle (mw952001@yahoo.com) or Erin (ncyanks4@earthlink.net) know if you are planning to go. Management -Carnival Wrap-Up - Thanks to everyone from our chapter & other chapters who came out to the carnival. We had a pretty good year. Congratulations - Hoffman Estates had 80% of our members involved in the carnival, and Julie joined! -Birdies for Charity – We are Little Birdie #15. If you have a form, please send it in to Joanne ASAP. -The Region Meeting & Awards Banquet is Saturday, July 28th. PLEASE PUT THIS DATE ON YOUR CALENDAR, AS WE ARE HOSTING IT! We will need a lot of people to check in and help out, not to mention have a chance to see people from throughout the region. It will be at Giuseppe's in Des Plaines starting at 5 p.m. To sign up, please download the attachment entitled North Region Meeting and send it into the address on the form (or bring it to a Hoffman event) with $20 (which includes a great dinner buffet). They are due by 7/14. -The Trivia/Decorations committee for the Regional will be on Wednesday, July 11th at Jersey's at 7 p.m. (just north of I-90 on Barrington Rd.). All are welcome. -The Autism 50/50 and Shop & Share raised some money for a local Autism school. We will know the proceeds of the shop & share by the next meeting. District Director (Keith McClenning) -There will be a District Social on Sunday, June 24th at the Fox & Hound in Schaumburg. If you are interested, e-mail Keith at klmapr18@yahoo.com. -Keith is asking everyone in the district to make sure if you sign up for a shift to please let the chairperson know if something comes up and you can't make it, at any event from the chapter to region to state. Region Director (Chaffee Nguyen) -RD Update: -Keep up the hard work. Chaffee is glad to see so much going on in Hoffman Estates. -Professional Speaker Series - Thursday, June 21 at the Alfred Capanelli YMCA at 7 p.m. (the speaker just changed and is now Jim Celarak). Cost is $5 for Jaycees, $10 for non-Jaycees. -Other events in the region: (Erin's note: These chapters also helped us out at our carnival, so it would be great if we can help them out at these events.) -Wheeling - July 3rd & 4th will be selling corn and beer and doing kids' games; they can use help either day. -Gurnee/Lindenhurst - Festival and parades from August 9-12 and can use help with carnival tickets and parades -The Levy/Speedway event is July 14&15 in Joliet. If you can come, talk to Joanne at (847) 561-2556. -There is a North Region Shop & Share next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. All you have to do is print out the attached shop & share sheet and turn it in to the cashier at Jewel when you go shopping on one of those days. 5% of the proceeds goes back to the region! State President Denise Lenz (#76) - President Denise talked about how the corporate recruiting we did on Tuesday went well. (She came up to help with the recruiting effort.) She also spoke about what it means to be a Jaycee - that we are leaders and are constantly developing leadership skills by running projects in the community. New Business: -The 4th of July Commission in Hoffman Estates is looking for volunteers to help sell beer and check ID's at the 4th of July festival. People are needed anytime for a 2 1/2-hour block from 7/4-7/8: Wed. 1-10, Thurs. 6-10, Fri. 6-11, Sat. 1-11, and Sun. 12-6. If you can help out, please contact Allen at 847-878-1908. Illinois President Denise Lenz swore in our newest member, Julie Ostrow. Welcome, Julie! Good of the Order -Congratulations to Mansi & Vishal, the proud parents of a baby girl named Annika! Theme Award: This month's theme was Tennis - Overhead Smash! The June winner was Joanne Rinaldo. Joanne has not only co-chaired the carnival, but she has gone to several other chapter meetings to recruit manpower and talk about the upcoming regional meeting we're hosting, as well as chairing several other projects over the past 2 months.
