Jaycees & Guests, As a reminder, there will be a coffee social this Thursday night at Caribou Coffee at 7 p.m. 1183 N. Roselle (Golf & Roselle Intersection, next to Blockbuster). It's a great chance to socialize, have some great coffee (or hot chocolate!). Guests & children are welcome. Here are the minutes from last Tuesday's meeting. He was sworn in by National Jaycee Garrett McNally at the meeting. Be sure to welcome him when you see him at one of our upcoming events. And thanks to Jim for bringing him out! Erin Meeting Minutes Tuesday, August 21 The Hoffman Estates Jaycees celebrated our 6th Anniversary! Chaffee (Region Director) provided pizza for us since we met our goals for the carnival in June. Caribou Coffee (Poplar Creek) donated coffee and mints to our group to celebrate the event. There was a great turnout for the celebration, including HE Jaycees as well as people from the region and state. Thanks to all who were able to come out! Treasurer Report (Rob): We have about $4K in our account. The regional resulted in a loss of approximately $3. We will be donating some of the money to some charities. If you have a suggestion or particular favorite Jaycee charity, let a board member know ASAP. Visitors/Guests: HE Mayor McLeod congratulated us on our 6th Anniverary and thanked us for what we do in Hoffman Estates. He presented us with a key to the village! The Schaumburg Jaycees have a Labor Day weekend festival. They are looking for people to work membership Sat., Sun, or Mon., or sell beer on Monday. Please call Scott at (847) 507-2727. The Wheeling Jaycees are selling tickets to their annual Lobsterfest. It is $21 for the Surf & Turf Dinner at Bob Chin's Crabhouse in Wheeling on Mon.-Thurs. nights. For tickets, see Erin or one of the Wheeling Jaycees. The Region Hit will be on Sep. 27th. The Palatine Jaycees are gearing up for their annual Haunted House. If you're interested in helping out, let Kate know at (847) 202-8976. President (Erin): Congratulations to our chapter for reaching the 6th year! Keep up the good work, and continue to recruit your friends! Kudos went to this month's chairs: Joanne & Michelle - Regional, Joanne - Coffee Social, Jeff & Amy - How to Grill, and Louise - School Supply Drive. Membership/COB (Joanne): The last coffee night at Caribou in Poplar Creek went well and we had a good turnout. The next coffee night will be at the Caribou at Roselle & Golf on Thursday, August 30th at 7:00 p.m. Please let us know if you're planning to come. Guests & kids are welcome. We will be having a Dave & Buster’s afternoon on Sep. 8th in Addison. Come out and socialize with the Jaycees! Community (Louise): The Clearbrook Car Wash will be on Sat., Sep. 15th at the Hoffman Estates Police Station (Gannon Rd.). Proceeds will benefit the Clearbrook Scout Troop. We are hoping to work at the Shelter, Inc. thrift shop on Sat., Sep. 28th. Make a Difference Day will be on Sat., Oct. 27th at Valli's Grocery in Hoffman Estates. Louise and Holly will be chairing the project. please put the date on your calendar now, since we really need help at this event (Pizza is served at 7 p.m., volunteers are needed from 6-9 p.m.). Guest Speaker: Garrett McNally spoke about the Jaycees and how it has impacted his life and the lives of those around him. He is also running for the national presidency next month. If you have a chance to go to Omaha for the convention & voting, go! It will be a great experience. Individual Development (Michelle): We are planning another Dinner by Design outing on Sat., Oct. 6th. Let Michelle or Erin know if you are interested in attending. Management: We will be having a Steak & Shake Fundraiser following the next (shortened) meeting on Tuesday, Sep. 18th. Plan to come out with an empty stomach so we can go across the street and bring money to our group! State VP (Cathy): The Community Tag Days will be on Nov. 16th & 17th. If you're interested, the deposit is $100 for the box of candy. See Cathy if you're interested. Local Directors (Chaffee/Kate): Thanks to everyone who has found us on Meetup.com and come out to our events. If you've found us on Meetup and are interested in getting on our e-mail list, let us know. District Director (Keith): Congratulations on a great 2nd quarter! Our region also did a great job in the region & state. There is also another Shop & Share for the North Region this week. Region Director (Chaffee): Good job for the 2nd quarter. The HE chapter did a lot of great projects and won several awards. Region trainings are resuming and will include call-night training and membership training. FOTS will be on Sep. 29th. The North Region site is frequently updated. You can sign up for the Weekly Rock on the North Region site. The North Region also won the enthusiasm award for this convention. The next convention is Nov. 9th-11th in St. Louis. Awards: We won MANY awards in the region & state for the 2nd quarter, including nomination in the state for the VP Cup for having programming in every area of the Jaycees! We are #3 for the POC points in the state and received awards for the top ID chapter. Congratulations to these HE members for their individual awards in the region and/or state: Joanne, Rob, Louise, Julie, Jim, and Amy! we know that the chapter is strong because of the contributions of all of our members, so thanks for all you do! Check the website next week for a complete list of awards. Keep telling your friends about our chapter, since that's how we can stay strong. Theme Award: This month's theme award (Football-Touchdown!) went to Jeff Johnson for chairing the How to Grill project and for his consistent support throughout the year. Way to go, Jeff!
