Jaycee Minutes February 14, 2006 Upcoming Events: Fri. 2/17 Riccardo's M-Night, 7 p.m. Fri. 3/10 Region Social (hosted by Hoffman) at Fox & Hound in Arlington Heights Sun. 3/12 Ice Cream Social Tues. 3/14 General Meeting Sat. 3/18 St. Patrick's Day Recovery Social Agenda was approved. Monica Haun (Asst. Region Director) came to visit. She congratulated the Hoffman Jaycees on submitting a blue chip submission and winning awards at the year-end meetings. She talked about raising state dues to cover administrative costs of the state Jaycees. Quest for the cup (region program) information was passed out. She read a note from Ann Stechly and presented Joanne with dirt, symbolizing sticking with the group and region and making it a better organization this year. Debbie Taflinger (District Director) discussed the Emerald City theme for the region. She explained that we can earn incentives for being active in chapter and region events. Look in the March region newsletter for more details. She is glad that we submitted blue chip submission. The region district socials will be once per quarter to get to know people in the district. District Activities: Elk Grove Village has Italian 101 (cooking) on Sunday afternoon. Oscar Party in Round Lake will 3/5. Northbrook is having Mardi Gras at Estonian House, proceeds go to Camp New Hope. If interested, e-mail Debbie at dtaflinger@sbcglobal.net Chad Stechly (from Round Lake, also the first husband of the region!) is leading Help Us Help Wildlife, which supports wildlife in the area. The center operates through volunteers. Chad is running a collection using items or money in the next 2 months. Some items are: dry kitten food, powdered KMR, wild bird seed, sunflower seed, Finch seed, Brad Haun (Palatine) Friday, February 24th Karaoke 7 p.m.-12 a.m. at American Region Hall in Palatine. Game Night (at Lamplighters in Palatine) will be Fri. 3/3 at 6 p.m. Old Business: Pizzeria Uno: We Due to a management change, we will be receiving our money sometime soon. Superbowl Squares: Superbowl Squares resulted in $500 for the chapter. Thanks to Chaffee & Amy for hosting the Superbowl party. Game Night: Heidi & Kevin hosted the well-attended game night. People from the region and Palatine also came to the game night. Awards: Ericka won child of the year for region and runner-up for the state! Erin won an outstanding secretary and Joanne won an outstanding treasurer in the state. Michelle won fourth quarter awards for the region and state! Senator Kate McNally!! Way to go, Kate! She is now senator #66151, which was sponsored by Hoffman Estates and Palatine and presented at the state convention. Joanne, Mike, Heidi, Chaffee, and Kevin (another senator!) honored Kate with formal speeches, followed by region and Palatine members' comments. Joanne presented her with an engraved phone. Movie Tickets: Heidi explained that you can purchase AMC movie tickets for $6.00 (good for movies after the first 2 weeks) but we get 50 cents profit as a fundraiser. The money is going to Smile Train this year to train doctors to do cleft palate surgery in other countries. To purchase tickets, e-mail Heidi at heidivball@aol.com. Board news: President: We will be advertising on the local cable channel and sending surveys out to all current members. Membership: Riccardo's M-Night: Plan to come out to the membership night on Friday night at 7 p.m. to find out more about the Jaycees. The pizza is free. Riccardo's is located at Wise & Roselle in Schaumburg Power Hour Call Day: Prospective members were called and introduced to the Jaycees. Thanks to the region for their support on this! Ice Cream Social: There will be an ice cream social on 3/12 for prospective and current members. There is a new brochure being sent out to prospective members, and the website is being updated frequently (www.hoffmanestatesjaycees.org). Membership incentives: Remember that if you bring a prospective member to an event or project, you can a chance card for our monthly drawing for gift certificates - 2 chance cards if the person joins! The Jaycees is a great group, so tell all your friends about it. Community: The Easter Egg Hunt & Relay for Life are being worked on for future community events. Treasurer: We now have around $3000 before the insurance payment. Local Directors: Super 7 Training (Kate) - We will have the Super 7 Training for board members on March 18, followed by the St. Patrick's social. Ink Fundraiser (Chaffee) - We have a fundraiser with OnPoint Direct. You can buy ink & toner for 40%. Simply visit our website: www.hoffmanestatesjaycees.org and click on the ink link at the bottom of the page. 10% of profits goes to our chapter to donate to a charity. March Madness (Chaffee) - This is a potential fundraiser. We would be preselling slots and you can choose your picks. COB/Management: Get newsletter submissions to Mike by the board meeting (fourth Wednesday of each month). ID Project: Rob & Erin taught everyone how to waltz. Regional Social: Hosted by us! Fri. 3/10 Hoffman is hosting the next social at the Fox & Hound in Arlington Heights. Carnival: June 8-11 - We are looking for a chair for the carnival. If you want to be on the carnival committee, please let a board meeting know. 3/18 - St. Patrick's Day Recovery Social, Kate's house Parade of Chapter Points: Joanne suggested competing in competitions for the parade of chapters. CPG Training will be later on this quarter or next quarter. PR training will be done at one of the future meetings. We may be helping with the 4th of July celebration in Hoffman Estates. Clearbrook: We renewed our sponsorship of the Clearbrook chapter. Our chapter's theme this year is Go for the Gold! Like the athletes in the Olympics, we need to try to do our best, recruit new members and all members involved in chapter activities.
