The Hoffman Estates Jaycees awarded two $500 scholarships to local high school students, Gianfranco Torres and Cindy Aguilera. The recipients were selected on the basis of merit, service and volunteering efforts.
Gianfranco Torres graduated from Fremd High School with a 3.84 GPA. He was a member of National Honor Society and Varsity Cross Country and Track and Field Teams. Gianfranco participated in Fremd’s Service Over Self Service club and Viking Advisory Mentorship Program. He volunteers at PADS as a teen setup Leader and was a co-founder of Pennies for Peru which raises funds to help impoverished children in rural Peru. Gianfranco will be attending at University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana and will be majoring in International Business.
Cindy Aguilera graduated from Hoffman Estates High School with a 4.337 GPA. She was a member of the National Honors Society and earned an AP Scholar Award. She volunteered and was a student advisory board and committee member for Partners in Our Community She was also a student volunteer for the school’s Bridge the Gap Program where she provided tours and advise to incoming freshman. In addition, she volunteered for Best Buddies and Global Awareness and Relieve Organization. Cindy will be pursuing a degree in Medical Research.
The Hoffman Estates Jaycees is a civic organization that provides individuals between the age of 21 and 40 the opportunity to network and develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community. The Hoffman Estates Jaycees meets at 7 p.m., on the third Wednesday of each month at the Hoffman Estates Village Hall Training Room located at 1900 Hassell Road.
