September 13, 2005 Treasurer - We have approximately $4,000 in the bank at this time. Community - Ray went to a Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce event, where several people mentioned hearing positive things about the Jaycees. Membership - Prospective members were called on a call night in August. Kate will make a brochure or invitation for the upcoming events to send to prospective members. A motion for $85 for postage and color copies was approved. Guest Speaker - John Bending, a police officer in Hoffman Estates, discussed the Benevolent Fund. The police involved in the program provide needed items to children and women in difficult situations, including Breakfast with the Books and trips to Target. Money is also raised to help families of downed police officers. We discussed donating money or time to assist the Benevolent fund. Old Business: Car Wash - The car wash was very successful. People from the Clearbrook scout troop teamed with several Hoffman Estates Jaycees to wash cars. Many people came out to have their cars washed, including Rep. Terry Parke. The total expenditures was slightly over $40, and the amount raised to donate to Clearbrook was $199. Since we sponsor the Clearbrook chapter every year, we will also be paying $200 for the sponsorship. Polo Shirts - If you ordered a shirt and have not yet picked it up, please pay Joanne or Mike and pick up your shirt. New Business: Name Tags - The nametags will have our names and Hoffman Estates Jaycees. They will be $7 apiece, paid by the chapter. If you want a nametag, please let Ray or Mike know by Thursday this week. Make a Difference Day - Oct. 22nd at Valli's Produce in Hoffman Estates, 9-5. We will be handing customers a list of food items needed for the Schaumburg Food Pantry (which serves Hoffman Estates & Schaumburg). Mike and Michelle will be chairing this project. Please mark that on your calendar now. Best Pizza Contest - Our goal is November 12th at the Township of Schaumburg. Erin Smith & Marc Karlin are chairing the project. It will be well-advertised. November 13th is our second choice, and November 11th will be the third choice. Barnes & Noble Discount - They are now offering a discount for organizations. Speakers - If you have an idea for a speaker, please let Mike know. Pat Corcoran from the Hoffman Review will be asked to be the next speaker. Tastefully Simple - Friday, October 7th, 7:00, Kate's house. It is a chapter social as well as a fundraiser. 10% of all proceeds will go back to the chapter and then donated, probably for a Thanksgiving dinner for a needy family. Hurricane Katrina - We discussed ideas for fundraising for hurricane victims. Regional Information - Bill Rowe came to tell us about regional events. There will be a Karaoke Contest in Gurnee.
